TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for anesthesiologists, surgeons, pulmonologists, intensivists, CRNAs, ICU, CCU, SICU nurses, and hospital pharmacists who manage patients requiring sedation in intensive care and perioperative settings.

STATEMENT OF NEED

Patients in intensive care or undergoing procedures frequently require pain management. Assessment of pain, sedation, agitation, and delirium with validated scales is a critical part of maintaining the balance between oversedation and undersedation. Recent results from patient management trials and from pharmaceutical clinical trials can enhance the practice of sedation and patient outcomes.
