John P. Kress, MD, is Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Kress also serves as Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit and the Pulmonary and Critical Care Procedure Service at the University of Chicago. He is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine, and anesthesiology.
Dr. Kress earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Missouri. He completed a Preliminary Internal Medicine internship at St. Joseph Hospital and Health Care Center in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Kress completed Anesthesiology and Internal Medicine residencies followed by a Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at University of Chicago.
Dr. Kress's recent research has focused on sedation for critically-ill patients with respiratory failure. He is a member of several professional societies and national committees, including the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine ICU Sedation Guidelines Task Force. For the last several years, Dr. Kress has been awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award by the medical residents at the University of Chicago.
